Our Mission

The mission of the Franciscans Brothers of the Cross San Damiano is first and foremost to live the gospel as followers of Jesus Christ, our Holy Father Francis, and the Third Order Regular Rule.

We Are Franciscans

The Franciscans Brothers of the Cross San Damiano is a congregation of Roman Catholic men, both married and single, committed to the Third Order Regular Rule.  We live and work independently and are self-supporting. The brothers strive in their lives and ministries toward Gospel conversion in the shadow of their Blessed Father Francis.  We promise obedience to our Holy Pontiff, and to the Ordinaries of the diocese in which each brother lives.

Story of St. Francis
St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226)

St. Francis or the Poverello as he is lovingly referred to was born in the small town of Assisi in central Italy, between Perugia and Foligno, on or around September 26, 1181 to Pietro di Bernardone, a wealthy cloth merchant and Pica Bourlemont his French wife. While Pietro was in France on business, Pica gave birth and baptized their son, Giovanni di Bernardone.  Upon his return, Pietro changed his sons name to Francesco in honor of his maternal heritage.  Francis spent most of his youth pursuing the good life, frolicking and celebrating throughout the Umbrian countryside with friends.

Vocations

WORDS OF ST. FRANCIS TO HIS FOLLOWERS
(From the Letter to the Faithful)

All who love the Lord with their whole heart, with their whole soul and mind, and with all their strength, (cf Mk 12:30) and love their neighbors as themselves, (cf Mt 22:39) and who despise the tendency in their humanity to sin, receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ and bring forth from within themselves fruits worthy of true penance; How happy and blessed are these men and women when they do these things, and persevere in doing them because "the Spirit of the Lord will rest upon them" (cf Is 11:12) and the Lord will make His home and "dwelling place with them" (cf Jn 14:23). They are the children of the Heavenly Father (cf Mt 5:45) whose works they do. They are the spouses, brothers and mothers of Our Lord Jesus Christ. (cf Mt 12:50).
